  • Documentary Video – Field Production & Editing Full Series: $100 – Produce a short documentary video to tell a story about your community. Through these courses, gain tips and tricks for capturing a scene, shooting creatively and effectively, capturing audio, interviewing techniques, and editing together your final documentary. You must complete all of the courses in this series to receive your TVSB Field and Editing Certification. By the end of the series, you will have produced a short documentary to premiere on TV Santa Barbara.

    Media 101: Producing a Documentary

    Gain a basic understanding of the production process. Learn how to plan to get your idea from concept to reality

    Field 101: Operating Field Production Cameras

    Edit 101: Final Cut Pro X Introduction

    Gain an understanding of the interface, how to organize your media, and import your media into your library. Perform some basic edits.

    Edit 102: Final Cut Pro X Intermediate

    Start to work on more advanced editing techniques for your program which include adding transitions, adjusting your audio mix, and adding basic graphics.

  • Mobile Video Production Full Series – Learn how to use TV Santa Barbara’s mobile device technologies or your own mobile device to capture your media, tell your story, and have an impact on your community.

    Mobile 101: Switcher Studio

    Explore our iPad based switcher system that can easily be set-up and operated in the field for a multi-camera field production that can be streamed live on YouTube or Facebook or recorded. You can even capture each iPad camera individually to use Final Cut Pro X to fine tune and adjust your field production. (Required for Switcher Studio Certification)

    Mobile 102: Media Activist Kit – Capturing Video

    Do you want to tell more stories about your community? Want an easy way to capture video and edit? Learn how to use the mobile technology of our media activist kits to shoot and record video in the field with an iPad and share your media off of your device. The same principles can be used with any mobile device. (Required for Media Activist Kit Certification)

  • Studio Production Full Series: $75 – Discover how to use the professional equipment in our two media production studios.  Through these courses, you will be able to operate studio cameras, run audio in our studios, operate our production switchers, and direct a multi-camera production. You must complete all of the courses in this series to receive your TVSB Studio Certification. By the end of the series, you will have produced one studio episode of a program to air on TV Santa Barbara.

    Media 101: Producing a Video

    Gain a basic understanding of the production process. Learn how to plan to get your idea from concept to reality

    Studio 101: Operating Studio Cameras

    Learn how to operate robotic and manual cameras in TVSB’s production studios. You will gain an understanding of framing your shots, how to work on a crew, follow commands from the director, and how to floor direct.

    Studio 102: Audio Production in the Studio

    Learn how to properly identify, choose, and set-up microphones for a studio production. Explore how to mix audio using an audio mixer in the control room.


    Studio 103: Lighting for the Studio

    We’ll cover the basics of three point lighting, what lights are available in our production studios, the basic operation of our lighting boards, and ow to adjust the lights for your show.

    Studio 104: Directing Your Studio Production

    Discover how to use the production switcher to technical direct the program, choose cameras, add graphics, provide crew direction, and record the program

    Studio 105: Putting it All Together Practicum

    Work with other volunteer crew members and your classmates to produce a 1/2 hour studio program that you develop. Requires completion of Studio 101-104.
